Fandango Olive Oil

After spending many vacations on the Central Coast, Jerry and Carolyn Shaffer purchased acreage in Paso Robles and thought about what should they grow? After availing themselves of almost every symposium and workshop offered by the UC Davis Olive Center, they planted a medium density olive orchard.  Their orchard of 2,000 Arbequina and Koroneiki trees has been certified organic by CCOF from day one. Additionally, their EVOOs have been seal certified by COOC since their first harvest.

While waiting for the excitement of their harvest in 2009, they continued their research and education and relied on support and guidance from COOC. They soon discovered that their patience, as well as their earth friendly farming practices, paid off. Their first entry into the L.A. International Olive Competition scored a Silver medal.  They were bitten by the competition bug. In the last 10 years, Fandango Olive Oil has won over 100 medals in various CA competitions. These include 42 Gold medals, 10 Best in Class, 5 Best of Show, and 43 Silver medals.

Their mission continues to be respecting Mother Nature’s gifts as they plant and plow while experiencing all seasons of their orchard. Their State licensed on-site bottling and storage facility is solar powered and also uses sky lights for energy efficiency. Their farm also uses a wireless Soil Moisture Monitoring System for water conservation. The Arbequina and Koroneiki olives are hand-picked, milled within hours of harvest, then stored in stainless steel tanks. This results in California’s agricultural treasure at its finest.
